Accessibility Information for the National Disability Summit 2026

At the National Disability Summit, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all attendees. Below is a detailed outline of the accessibility features and accommodations that will be provided to ensure a seamless experience for everyone.

Venue Accessibility

The Crown Promenade Melbourne is fully accessible and equipped with the following features:

  • Wheelchair Accessibility: All entrances, exits, and pathways are wheelchair accessible.
  • Accessible Restrooms: Accessible bathrooms are available in the pre-function area. To accommodate peak usage, we are working with the venue to provide access to an accessible hotel room as a backup option.
  • Automatic Doors: Key access points will be equipped with door stoppers to ensure ease of entry for wheelchair users.

Event Space Accessibility

Seating Configuration

  • Generous spacing: Tables will be arranged with ample space between them to ensure comfortable navigation for all attendees, including wheelchair users.
  • Adaptive seating: Wheelchair users will have the freedom to choose their preferred seating location.

Stage Accessibility

  • Stage Ramp: A ramp with handrails will be installed to ensure wheelchair access to the stage.
  • Stage Layout: The lectern, tub chairs, and coffee table will be arranged to allow 360-degree wheelchair rotation and easy access.

Accessibility Services

Hearing Accessibility

  • Hearing Loop: The hearing loop location will be clearly marked on all floor plans.
  • Live Captioning: Captions will be displayed on extra screens positioned at the front of the room.

Visual Accessibility

  • Braille Packs: Braille versions of the agenda will be available.
  • Large Font Materials: Large font agendas will be printed and displayed.
  • Additional Screens: Extra screens will be available to support visually impaired attendees.

Auslan Interpretation

  • On-Stage Auslan Interpreters: Three Auslan interpreters will be available throughout the summit, working in scheduled intervals to ensure continuous interpretation. At any given time, one interpreter will be on stage to provide real-time Auslan interpretation for attendees who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Catering Accessibility

  • Lowered Catering Stations: All food and beverage stations will be positioned at a height accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Assistance During Breaks: Crown Banquet staff will be available to assist attendees with carrying plates, serving food, navigating tables, and opening doors.
  • Diverse Drinking Vessels: Options will include cups/mugs with handles, stemmed wine glasses, and drinking straws.

Emergency Procedures

  • Evacuation Assistance: The venue’s security team will be briefed to provide additional support for attendees with disabilities during any evacuation.

Wayfinding Support

Navigating the Crown complex can be challenging. To assist attendees:

  • Staff Assistance: Additional staff will be stationed at key locations:
    • Level one, near the lift/entrance from the walkway/tunnel towards the Promenade foyer.
    • Crown Promenade ground-level foyer to direct attendees to the appropriate lifts.

Quiet Room

A designated quiet room will be available for attendees who require a calm and private space during the event.
